CBEC or what we know as Central Board of Excise and Customs is
a division of the Revenue Department under the Finance Ministry of Indian Government.
It handles the responsibilities of preparation of policy regarding tax and
collection of Central Excise & Customs duties and Services Tax, inhibition
of smuggling and management of matters involving Central Excise, Customs, Narcotics
and Service Tax to the level under Board’s purview. The CBEC is the executive
authority for its subsidiary establishments, containing Central Excise and
Service Tax Commission, Custom Houses and the Central Revenues Control
Laboratory.
