Indian Coast Guard Emerged as a new service on First of Feb
1977 which was the result of an alertness that was rising for some time in the Administration
for the obligation to impose Nationwide Laws in the waters under the jurisdiction
of nation and ensure security of property and life at sea. It was also
considered necessary that these law implementation tasks should be assumed by a
service properly equipped and exhibited on the Coast Guards of developed
nations like UK, USA etc. leaving to exercise the Navy for its wartime role.
