About Organisation
Up to 1965 borders of India with Pakistan were manned by the State Armed Police Battallion. Pakistan attacked Chhar Bet, Beria Bet and Sardar Post on 9th of April, 1965 in Kutch. This exposed the insufficiency of the State Armed Police to cope with armed aggression due to which the Govt. of India felt the need for an expert centrally controlled ‘Border Security Force’, which would be trained and armed to man the International Borders with Pakistan. On account of the recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries, the Border Security Force (BSF) came into existence on 1st Dec 1965. Shri K F Rustamji was the first chief of the newly established force (BSF).
