The ILS of so called Institute of Life Sciences situated in
Bhubaneshwar came into existence under the fold of the Biotechnology Department
of Indian Government in the year and month August 2002. The institute was previously
under the organizational and monetary control of Science and Technology
Department of Orissa Government. The then Indian Prime minister devoted the
institution to the country on July 15 2003 with a statement to advance as a National Center for Excellence. The directive of Institute is to assume basic and transnational examination in front-line areas of life sciences. The study
interests of the faculty are in these three key areas: (i) Communicable Disease
Biology, (ii) Functioning of Gene and its Regulation (iii) Translation Researches and
Technology Advancement. Furthermore, new partnerships with the industry have
been set up to tap commercial prospective of laboratory sciences.
